James
by Percival Everett

James by Percival Everett is a thought-provoking and powerful novel that delves into the complexities of identity, race, and personal history. Inspired by The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, the story follows the journey of James, an enslaved man whose life is shaped by a deep sense of isolation and a constant search for belonging. As James navigates the challenges of his own existence, the novel explores themes of self-discovery, the impact of the past, and the ways in which individuals define themselves within the constraints of societal expectations. James is a compelling exploration of what it means to truly understand oneself in a world full of contradictions.
