Assistant Library Director

The Sherman Library is seeking an energetic, community-minded person to join our team as Assistant Library Director. Under the general direction and oversight of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director performs supervisory, administrative, and professional work by assisting in planning, organizing, and directing library operations that support customer service and all aspects of the Library’s mission. The Assistant Director works closely with the Executive Director in drafting, updating, and implementing policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and practices that support the Library and meet the community’s needs. The Assistant Director promotes a culture that reflects the Library’s values and encourages creativity, innovation and productivity.

Qualifications: The skills and knowledge required for this position would be consistent with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program and three to five years in increasing supervisory experience in a library setting. However, a combination of other education and applicable experience may be considered.

The Sherman Library is an association library located in the historic center of Sherman, CT, a beautiful New England town with all the attributes that people cherish in small town living. The Library, which traces its origin to 1901, is housed in a modern 9000 square foot space with the original building and barn listed on the National (State) Historic Register. Positioned with easy access to the Sherman School, Town Hall, Senior Center, and Historical Society, the Sherman Library is the active center for learning, gathering and cultural exchange in the community.
